羅馬合唱團是由Clive Farrington and Michael Floreale於1985年在英國曼撤斯特組成，後來Andrew Mann加入，至此三人組合確定。於是他們在1988年推出了首支單曲也就是今天所介紹的「The Promise」，在該團推出後這首舞曲後迅速走紅，曾打入美國熱門單曲榜的第11名；以及舞曲榜的冠軍，後來公司順勢推出主打歌曲同名專輯【The Promise】(專輯榜85名)。接著在1990年推出的「Heaven Knows」只得到第95名，竄紅的快；消失的也快，於是這新浪潮三人組合『羅馬合唱團』就漸漸消失退出流行市場了。

在2004年電影【Napoleon Dynamite 拿破崙炸藥】(台灣未上映；但是有發行DVD)電影原聲帶中也有收錄這首歌。
