1. Chateau Ste Michelle Merltage 1999 Columbia Valley Washington
Wine Spectator: 92- June 30, 2003
Beautifully polished and lithe, with lovely plum(李子) and currant flavors that persist into a long, firm-textured finish, shaded by hints of white pepper(白胡椒) and cream(奶油). Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with Cabernet Franc.
2. Pepper Bridge Winery C.S 2001 Walla Walla Valley Washington
The 2001 vintage year was unusual in that nothing unusual happened: Walla Walla experienced average temperatures and rainfall during the growing season, and the grapes matured beautifully without any troubles from Mother Nature.
Varietal(s): 97.7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.3% Merlot
Vineyard(s): 51.9% Pepper Bridge Vineyard, 48.1% Seven Hills Vineyard
Oak Program: 72% New Oak, 28% Used Oak; 98% French Oak, 2% American Oak
Time in Barrels: 22 Months
This ultra-premium cab earns its price tag thanks to aromas loaded with berries, dark chocolate and vanilla and rich, lush, bold flavors of blackberries and black currants. Lush, bold flavors. Beautifully balanced, this wine shows off intriguing and penetrating flavors that lead to a gorgeous finish.
3. Northstar Merlot 2001 Columbia Valley Washington
Wine Advocate: 92 - Aug. 01, 2004
Interestingly, I preferred the less expensive 2001 Merlot Columbia Valley. Containing 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, this offering exhibits a nose of cassis(黑醋栗), blackberries(黑莓), licorice(甘草) and asphalt(瀝青). There are 4,800 cases of this lush, concentrated, medium to full bodied wine. Its broad-shouldered personality coats the palate with rich layers of juicy red cherries, blackberries, tar, and spicy licorice. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2017.
4. Andrew Will Sorella 2001 Columbia Valley Washington (C.S68%、Merlot10%、C.F15%、Petit Verdot7%)
Wine Advocate: 93 - Aug. 01, 2004
Entirely produced from Champoux
Vineyard, the core of the 2001 Sorella is from a 29 year-old block of
Cabernet Sauvignon (68%) with the balance being Cabernet Franc (15%),
Merlot (10%), and Petit Verdot (7%). Certainly Camarda's most refined
2001, it bursts from the glass revealing a myriad of floral red fruit
scents. Cherries(櫻桃), raspberries(覆盆子), cassis(黑醋栗), spices(香料), and blackberries(黑莓)
vie for the taster's attention in its intricately-laced character.
Medium-bodied and pure, it doesn't have quite the weight or power of
either the Ciel du Cheval Vineyard or Champoux Vineyard 2001s, yet is
exquisitely detailed, focused, and exhibits the same extended,
wonderfully ripe finish found in all of Camarda's glorious 2001s. Bravo!
5. Andrew Will Ciel du Cheval Vineyard 2001 Washington (Merlot60%、C.F21%、C.S12%、Petit Verdot7%)
Wine Advocate: 94 - Aug. 01, 2004
Exhibiting aromas and flavors composed of red cherries(櫻桃), raspberries(覆盆子), cassis(黑醋栗), blackberries(黑莓), sweet herbs(甜草本漿果), and allspice(五香粉), the softly-textured 2001 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard appears to get better every time I taste it. On this, my third visit with this beauty, I was once again enamored of its elegance, precision, purity, and length. Medium-bodied and seamless, this harmonious seductress is redolent with sweetly herbal fruit that drowns its sublimely ripe tannin. Anticipated maturity: now-2017.
This winery, named after Chris and
Annie Camarda's nephew, Andrew, as well as son, Will, used to produce a
bevy of Merlots and Cabernets from contracted vineyards. Recently,
however, it has evolved towards the production of Bordeaux-style blends
that reflect Chris's perception of each vineyard's terroir. Klipsun
Vineyard, located in the Red Mountain AVA (American Viticultural Area),
remains the exception to Camarda's newly found 'meritage' philosophy.
6. Chateau St Jean Cinq Cepages Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 Sonoma
Cinq Cépages ("Five Varieties") is a Bordeaux-style blend consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon (77%), Merlot (9%), Cabernet Franc (7%), Malbec (4%), and Petit Verdot (3%). Each component is aged separately for two years in small French oak barrels (47% new) before blending. Once the wine is assembled, it spends six months in the bottle before release.
"Inviting aromas of boysenberry(波森莓) and violet(紫羅蘭) define the nose of this flagship Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. A rich and dense entry begins with layers of black raspberry(黑樹莓), mocha(摩卡) and hints of blueberry(藍莓). The palate offers a graceful balance between fruit extract and fine-grained tannins. This deep, concentrated wine has a classic Cinq Cépages structure with beautiful oak integration and a lushness throughout that leads to a lingering finish."
- Margo Van Staaveren, Winemaker
Wine Advocate: 90 - Dec. 01, 2007
"The 2004 Cinq Cepages displays an elegant, Bordeaux-like style offering aromas of cedar(雪松), tobacco leaf(菸葉), black currants(黑加侖), cherries(櫻桃), and spice box(香料盒).Medium to full-bodied with soft, silky tannins, and a moderately long finish, it should drink well for 7-8 years."
