國際自然保育聯盟（International Union for Conservation of Nature）今天公布今年全球瀕危物種「紅皮書」（Red List），總調查47,677物種，其中有高達17,291物種面臨滅絕威脅，包括二成哺乳類動物品種、三成兩棲類動物，數目再創新高，而且，將有11個物種在今年宣告絕種。

IUCN生物多樣性公約小組負責人思麥特說︰「與日俱增的科學證據顯示我們面臨嚴重的滅絕危機，二○一○年「停止全球生物多樣性的減損」的目標可能無法達成，各國政府應及時更加努力，以免為時已晚。」

The latest update of the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species shows that 17,291 species out of the 47,677 assessed species are threatened with extinction. The results confirm that 21% of all known mammals, 30% of all known amphibians, 12% of all known birds and 32% of all known gymnosperms (conifers and cycads) are threatened with extinction.

"The scientific evidence of a serious extinction crisis is mounting," says Jane Smart, Director of IUCN's Biodiversity Conservation Group. "The latest analysis of the IUCN Red List shows the 2010 target to reduce biodiversity loss will not be met. It's time for Governments to start getting serious about saving species and make sure it's high on their agendas for next year, as we're rapidly running out of time."
