    2001 Blankiet Estate Paradise Hills Vineyard Merlot

    這個酒廠是美國小小膜拜酒之一,創建於1996年,一開始的8個年份是由Helen Turley擔任釀酒師。這位Helen Turley是在1991年第一位開始在SONOMA COAST種植葡萄的人,當時大家都認為那個區域太冷生產不出好品質的葡萄,結果是造就了 Marcassin酒廠。她當顧問的其它酒莊還包括了 Colgin, Martinelli Winery, Kapcsándy Family Winery, Blankiet Estate, Pahlmeyer Winery, Landmark Winery, 及 Bryant Family。她的學生還包括了Heidi Barrett,這位Screaming Eagle的前任釀酒師,及知名的Mark Aubert(Peter Michael、Colgin酒廠釀酒師)。

    RP:91。The dark plum/purple-colored 2001 Merlot Paradise Hills Vineyard exhibits sweet aromas of cherry liqueur interwoven with mocha fudge. Firm, hard tannin in the finish closes the wine down on the palate. This is a structured, seriously-endowed Merlot meant for long term aging. The aromatics are a knock-out, but the flavors have yet to completely unfold, and while loaded as well as impressively endowed, the wine is tannic and backward.

    TZ:92。Full, deep ruby-red. Very sexy, perfumed aromas of black raspberry, violet, mint, spices and tobacco. Broad, dry and suave at once velvety and light on its feet. Bordeaux-like in its texture and inner-mouth verve. Coats the entire palate with flavor. Finishes very long and sweet, with a flavor of melted chocolate. A retaste of a bottle I sampled last year just after it was bottled.

    Another spectacular offering from young perfectionist Jean-Philippe janoueix, this 2006 Pomerol (an appellation that appears to have hit the highest peaks of quality across the board) is a bland of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc cropped at a modest 29 hectoliters per hectare.

    Similar to the 2005 the natural alcohol achieved 13,6%.

    A stunningly dense plurn purple color offers up notes of scorched earth, blackberries, plurns, sweet cherries, truffes, and chocolate. Full-bodled with considerable finesse, supple tannins, and a grilled meat-like character, this fleshy, full, opulent wine's huge fruit and glycen admirably cover its substantial tannins.

    WA:91。Although not quite the blockbuster I expected from the barrel samples I tasted, this is, nevertheless, an outstanding effort from a vineyard situated next to the garagiste superstar, Le Pin. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by sumptuous aromas of truffles, chocolate, kirsch, fig, coffee, and toasty oak. Deep and full-bodied with a broad, savory mouthfeel, and a layered finish, this beauty will provide pleasure over the next 15-20 years. Kudos to Jean-Philippe Janoueix!



    1996 Chateau Malescot St Exupery

    RP:90。This impressively constructed wine offers a saturated deep ruby/purple color, followed by elegant aromas of berry fruit intermixed with tobacco, flowers, and vanillin scents. It is layered and medium to full-bodied, with outstanding purity and fruit extraction. Although deep, rich, and powerful for a wine from this estate, it has not lost any of its elegance or potential complexity. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2025.
