Gospel, Luke 18:9-14

Reading 1, Hosea 6:1-6

1「來,我們回到上主那裡去,因為他撕碎了我們,也必要治愈;他打傷了我們,也必要包紮。 1 Come, let us return to Yahweh. He has rent us and he will heal us; he has struck us and he will bind up our wounds;

2 after two days he will revive us, on the third day he will raise us up and we shall live in his presence.

3 Let us know, let us strive to know Yahweh; that he will come is as certain as the dawn. He will come to us like a shower, like the rain of springtime to the earth.

4 What am I to do with you, Ephraim? What am I to do with you, Judah? For your love is like morning mist, like the dew that quickly disappears.

5 This is why I have hacked them to pieces by means of the prophets, why I have killed them with words from my mouth, why my sentence will blaze forth like the dawn-

6 for faithful love is what pleases me, not sacrifice; knowledge of God, not burnt offerings.

Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 51:3-4, 18-19, 20-21

3 For I am well aware of my offences, my sin is constantly  in mind.

4 Against you, you alone, I have sinned, I have done what you see to be wrong, that you may show your saving justice when you pass sentence , and your victory may appear when you give judgement,

18 In your graciousness do good to Zion, rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

19 Then you will delight in upright sacrifices,-burnt offerings and whole oblations -- and young bulls will be offered on your altar.

Gospel, Luke 18:9-14

9 He spoke the following parable to some people who prided [praɪd] 自豪,得意themselves on being upright and despised[dɪˈspaɪz] 鄙視;看不起everyone else,

10 'Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax collector.

11 The Pharisee stood there and said this prayer to himself, "I thank you, God, that I am not grasping [ɡræsp] 抓牢;握緊;抱住unjust, adulterous [ǝˈdʌltǝrǝs]通姦的 like everyone else, and particularly [pɚˈtɪkjǝlɚlɪ] 特別、尤其that I am not like this tax collector here.

12 fast twice a week; I pay tithes [taɪð] 十一稅 on all I get."

13那個稅吏卻遠遠地站著,連舉目望天都不敢,祇是捶著自己的胸膛說:天主,可憐我這個罪人罷!13 The tax collector stood some distance away, not daring [ˈdɛrɪŋ] 大膽的 even to raise his eyes to heaven; but he beat his breast and said, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner."

14 This man, I tell you, went home again justified; the other did not. For everyone who raises himself up will be humbled, but anyone who humbles himself will be raised up.'

The Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy;萬福母后!仁慈的母親;

hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope!

To you do we cry, poor banished流放,放逐children of Eve ;厄娃子孫,在此塵世 ,向妳哀呼。

to you do we send up our sighs[saɪ]嘆息mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.

Turn then, most gracious advocate擁護者, your eyes of mercy towards us; 我們的主保,求你回顧,憐視我們,

and after this our exile , show to us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Reading 1 HOS 6:1-6

"Come, let us return to the LORD, it is he who has rent, but he will heal us;

he has struck us, but he will bind our wounds.

He will revive us after two days; on the third day he will raise us up, to live in his presence.

Let us know, let us strive to know the LORD; as certain as the dawn is his coming, and his judgment shines forth like the light of day!

He will come to us like the rain, like spring rain that waters the earth."

What can I do with you, Ephraim?

What can I do with you, Judah?

Your piety is like a morning cloud, like the dew that early passes away.

For this reason I smote them through the prophets, I slew them by the words of my mouth; For it is love that I desire, not sacrifice, and knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

Responsorial Psalm  PS 51:3-4, 18-19, 20-21AB

R. (see Hosea 6:6) It is mercy I desire, and not sacrifice.

Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness; in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense.

Thoroughly wash me from my guilt and of my sin cleanse me.

R. It is mercy I desire, and not sacrifice.

For you are not pleased with sacrifices; should I offer a burnt offering, you would not accept it.

My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit; a heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn.

R. It is mercy I desire, and not sacrifice.

Be bountiful, O LORD, to Zion in your kindness by rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem; Then shall you be pleased with due sacrifices, burnt offerings and holocausts.

R. It is mercy I desire, and not sacrifice.

Verse Before The Gospel PS 95:8

If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Gospel LK 18:9-14

Jesus addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else.

Two people went up to the temple area to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector.

The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity —  greedy, dishonest, adulterous — or even like this tax collector.

I fast twice a week, and I pay tithes on my whole income.’

But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’

I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
