Reading 1, Isaiah 50:4-9

4 Lord Yahweh has given me a disciple's tongue, for me to know how to give a word of comfort to the weary[ˋwɪrɪ]疲倦的. Morning by morning he makes my ear alertˋlɝt]警覺的;警惕的;機敏的 to listen like a disciple.

5 Lord Yahweh has opened my ear and I have not resisted, I have not turned away.

6 I have offered my back to those who struck me, my cheeks to those who plucked[plʌk]拉扯、採,摘,拔 my beard[bɪrd](下巴上的)鬍鬚,山羊鬍; I have not turned my face away from insult and spitting.

7 Lord Yahweh comes to my help, this is why insult has not touched me, this is why I have set my face like flint[flɪnt]燧石,火石 and know that I shall not be put to shame.

誰是我的對頭,叫他到我這裡來罷!8 He who grants[grænt]同意,准予、給予 me saving justice is near! Who will bring a case against me? Let us appear in court[kort]法庭,法院;(開)庭;場地 together! Who has a case against me? Let him approach me!

9 Look, Lord Yahweh is coming to my help! Who dares condemn[kənˋdɛm]責難,責備,譴責 me? Look at them, all falling apart like moth-eaten[ˋmɔθ͵itn]被蟲蛀的、陳舊的;破爛的 clothes!

Psalms 69:8-10, 21-22, 31, 33-34

9連我的兄弟們都以我為外賓,我母親的兒子都拿我當客人。8 I am estrangedˋstrendʒd]疏遠的;分居的 from my brothers, alienated[ˋeljənetɪd]疏遠的;感到孤獨的,不合群的 from my own mother's sons;

9 for I am eaten up with zeal[zil]熱心;熱誠 for your house, and insults directed[dəˋrɛktɪd]經指導的、應用的、指定的 against you fall on me.

11我含淚齋戒克己苦身,竟成了我受辱的原因;10 I mortify[ˋmɔrtə͵faɪ]使感屈辱;使失面子;使羞愧、禁慾、苦行 myself with fasting, and find myself insulted for it,

21 To eat they gave me poison, to drink, vinegar when I was thirsty.
23願他們的筵席變成網羅,為同席的友人變為圈套!22 May their own table prove a trap[træp]陷阱,羅網,捕捉器 for them, and their abundance a snare ;

31 for this will please Yahweh more than an ox, than a bullock horned and hoofed[huft]有蹄的;蹄形狀的.

33 For God listens to the poor, he has never scorned his captive people.

35願上天下地都歌頌讚美他,海洋和一切水族都稱揚他!34 Let heaven and earth and seas, and all that stirs[stɝ]攪拌,攪動、激起 in them, acclaim him!

Gospel, Matthew 26:14-25
14 Then one of the Twelve, the man called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests

15 and said, 'What are you prepared to give me if I hand him over to you?' They paid him thirty silver pieces,

16 and from then onwards[ˋɑnwɚd]向前;在前面he began to look for an opportunity to betray him.

17 Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus to say, 'Where do you want us to make the preparations for you to eat the Passover?'

18 He said, 'Go to a certain man in the city and say to him, "The Master says: My time is near. It is at your house that I am keeping Passover with my disciples." '

19 The disciples did what Jesus told them and prepared the Passover.

20 When evening came he was at table with the Twelve.

21 And while they were eating he said, 'In truth I tell you, one of you is about to betray me.'

22他們非常憂悶,開始各自對他說:「主,難道是我嗎?」22 They were greatly distressed[dɪˋstrɛst]痛苦的;憂傷的and started asking him in turn, 'Not me, Lord, surely?'

23 He answered, 'Someone who has dipped his hand into the dish with me will betray me.

24 The Son of man is going to his fate, as the scriptures say he will, but alas ˋlæs](表示悲痛、憐憫、遺憾、關切等)哎呀,唉for that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! Better for that man if he had never been born!'

25 Judas, who was to betray him, asked in his turn, 'Not me, Rabbi, surely?' Jesus answered, 'It is you who say it.'

Wednesday of Holy Week

Lectionary: 259

Reading 1 IS 50:4-9A

The Lord GOD has given me

a well-trained tongue,

That I might know how to speak to the weary

a word that will rouse them.

Morning after morning

he opens my ear that I may hear;

And I have not rebelled,

have not turned back.

I gave my back to those who beat me,

my cheeks to those who plucked my beard;

My face I did not shield

from buffets and spitting.

The Lord GOD is my help,

therefore I am not disgraced;

I have set my face like flint,

knowing that I shall not be put to shame.

He is near who upholds my right;

if anyone wishes to oppose me,

let us appear together.

Who disputes my right?

Let him confront me.

See, the Lord GOD is my help;

who will prove me wrong?

Responsorial Psalm PS 69:8-10, 21-22, 31 AND 33-34

R. (14c) Lord, in your great love, answer me.

For your sake I bear insult,

and shame covers my face.

I have become an outcast to my brothers,

a stranger to my mother's sons,

because zeal for your house consumes me,

and the insults of those who blaspheme you fall upon me.

Insult has broken my heart, and I am weak,

I looked for sympathy, but there was none;

for consolers, not one could I find.

Rather they put gall in my food,

and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

I will praise the name of God in song,

and I will glorify him with thanksgiving:

"See, you lowly ones, and be glad;

you who seek God, may your hearts revive!

For the LORD hears the poor,

and his own who are in bonds he spurns not."

Verse Before The Gospel

Hail to you, our King;

you alone are compassionate with our errors.

Hail to you, our King, obedient to the Father;

you were led to your crucifixion like a gentle lamb to the slaughter.

Gospel MT 26:14-25

One of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot,

went to the chief priests and said,

"What are you willing to give me

if I hand him over to you?"

They paid him thirty pieces of silver,

and from that time on he looked for an opportunity to hand him over.

On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread,

the disciples approached Jesus and said,

"Where do you want us to prepare

for you to eat the Passover?"

He said,

"Go into the city to a certain man and tell him,

'The teacher says, My appointed time draws near;

in your house I shall celebrate the Passover with my disciples."'"

The disciples then did as Jesus had ordered,

and prepared the Passover.

When it was evening,

he reclined at table with the Twelve.

And while they were eating, he said,

"Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me."

Deeply distressed at this,

they began to say to him one after another,

"Surely it is not I, Lord?"

He said in reply,

"He who has dipped his hand into the dish with me

is the one who will betray me.

The Son of Man indeed goes, as it is written of him,

but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed.

It would be better for that man if he had never been born."

Then Judas, his betrayer, said in reply,

"Surely it is not I, Rabbi?"

He answered, "You have said so."
