Reading 1, Isaiah 7:10-14

12上主又對阿哈次說:10 Yahweh spoke to Ahaz again and said:13「你向上主你的天主要求一個徵兆罷!或求諸陰府深處,或求諸上天高處。」11 Ask Yahweh your God for a sign, either in the depths of Sheol or in the heights above.14阿哈次回答說:「我不要求,我不願試探上主。」12 But Ahaz said, 'I will not ask. I will not put Yahweh to the test.'15依撒意亞說:「達味的家族,你們聽著罷!你們使人厭惡還不夠,還要使我的天主厭惡嗎? 13 He then said: Listen now, House of David: are you not satisfied with trying human patience that you should try my God's patience too?16因此,吾主要親自給你們一個徵兆:看,有位貞女要懷孕生子,給他起名叫厄瑪奴耳。14 The Lord will give you a sign in any case: It is this: the young woman is with child and will give birth to a son whom she will call Immanuel.

Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 24:1-2, 3-4, 5-6-0901

1達味詩歌。大地和其中的萬物,屬於上主,世界和其間的居民,屬於上主。1 [Psalm Of David] To Yahweh belong the earth and all it contains[kǝnˈtеn] 包含;容納, the world and all who live there;2是他在海洋上奠定了大地,是他在江河上建立了全世。2 it is he who laid its foundations on the seas, on the flowing [ˈfloɪŋ] 流動的waters fixed it firm.3誰能登上上主的聖山?誰能居留在他的聖殿?3 Who shall go up to the mountain of Yahweh? Who shall take a stand in his holy place?

4是那手潔心清,不慕虛幻的人,是那不發假誓,不行欺騙的人。4 The clean of hands and pure of heart, whose heart is not set on vanities [ˈvænǝtɪ] 自負;虛榮(心), who does not swear an oath[oθ] 誓言,詛咒in order to deceive [dɪˈsiv] 欺詐,行騙.

5他必獲得上主的祝福;和拯救者天主的報酬。5 Such a one will receive blessing from Yahweh, saving justice from the God of his salvation.

6這樣的人是尋求上主的苖裔,追求雅各伯天主儀容的子息。(休止)6 Such is the people that seeks him, that seeks your presence, God of Jacob.

7城門,請提高你們的門楣,古老的門戶,請加大門扉,因為要歡迎光榮的君王。7 Gates, lift high your heads, raise high the ancient [ˈеnʃǝnt] 古老的;古舊的,舊的gateways, and the king of glory shall enter!

8誰是這位光榮的君主?就是英勇大能的上主,是那有力作戰的天主。8 Who is he, this king of glory? It is Yahweh, strong and valiant, Yahweh valiant[ˋvæljənt] 勇敢的,英勇的in battle[ˈbætḷ] 戰鬥;戰役.

9城門,請提高你們的門楣,古老的門戶,請加大門扉,因為要歡迎光榮的君主Gates, lift high your heads, raise high the ancient [ˈеnʃǝnt] 古老的;古舊的,舊的gateways, and the king of glory shall enter!

10誰是這位光榮的君主?其實這位光榮的君主,就是萬軍之軍的上主。(休止)10 Who is he, this king of glory? Yahweh Sabaoth, he is the king of glory. 

Gospel, Luke 1:26-38 

26到了第六個月,天使加俾額爾奉天主差遣,往加里肋亞一座名叫納匝肋的城去,26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,

27到一位童貞女那裡,她已與達味家族中的一個名叫若瑟的男子訂了婚,童貞女的名字叫瑪利亞。27 to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the House of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

28天使進去向她說:「萬福!充滿恩寵者,上主與你同在!」【在女人中你是蒙祝福的。】28 He went in and said to her, 'Rejoice, you who enjoy God's favour! The Lord is with you.'

29她卻因這話驚惶不安,便思慮這樣的請安有什麼意思。29 She was deeply disturbed[dɪˋstɝbd]  by these words and asked herself what this greeting could mean,

30天使對她說:「瑪利亞,不要害怕,因為你在天主前獲得了寵幸。30 but the angel said to her, 'Mary, do not be afraid; you have won God's favour[ˋfevɚ] .

31看,你將懷孕生子,並要給他起名叫耶穌。31 Look! You are to conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you must name him Jesus.

32他將是偉大的,並被稱為至高者的兒子,上主天主要把他祖先達味的御座賜給他。32 He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David;

33他要為王統治雅各伯家,直到永遠;他的王權沒有終結。」33 he will rule over the House of Jacob for ever and his reign will have no end.'

34瑪利亞便向天使說:「這事怎能成就?因為我不認識男人。」34 Mary said to the angel, 'But how can this come about, since I have no knowledge of man?'

35天使答覆她說:「聖神要臨於你,至高者的能力要庇廕你,因此,那要誕生的聖者,將稱為天主的兒子。35 The angel answered, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. And so the child will be holy and will be called Son of God.

36且看,你的親戚依撒伯爾,她雖在老年,卻懷了男胎,本月已六個月了,她原是素稱不生育的, 36 And I tell you this too: your cousin Elizabeth also, in her old age, has conceived a son, and she whom people called barren[ˋbærən] is now in her sixth month,

37因為在天主前沒有不能的事。」37 for nothing is impossible to God.'

38瑪利亞說:「看!上主的婢女,願照你的話成就於我罷!」天使便離開她去了。38 Mary said, 'You see before you the Lord's servant, let it happen to me as you have said.' And the angel left her.

1.THE AGONY IN THE GARDEN

1.Jesus comes with his disciples to Gethsemani: "Stay here, while I go yonder [ˈjɑndɚ] 那邊的,遠處的and pray."

2.Entering the garden with Peter, James, and John, Jesus prays, "My soul is sorrowful even unto death."

3.Jesus sees the sins of all mankind, whose guilt He has taken upon Himself.

4.He sees the wrath [ræθ] 神譴,天罰of the Father which His sufferings must appease [ǝˈpiz] 平息;緩和;撫慰.

5.So great is his anguish that His sweat becomes as drops of blood falling to the ground.

6.An angel appears to Him from heaven to strengthen Him.

7."Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet, not My will but Yours be done."

8.Finding the disciples asleep: "Could you not watch one hour with me?"

9.Jesus is betrayed by Judas, cruelly [ˋkruəlɪ] 殘酷地,殘暴地bound [baʊnd] 被縛住的;受束縛的 and lead away.

10.Father, by the merits of the agony of Jesus in the Garden, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Spiritual Fruit: God's Will be done

The Second Sorrowful Mystery

2.The Scourging [skɝdʒ]鞭打At The Pillar [ˋpɪlɚ]柱,柱子

1.Jesus is taken before the High Priest where He is falsely [ˋfɔlslɪ] 錯誤地;不正確地accused [ǝˈkjuzd]被告, buffeted [ˋbʌfɪt] (手或拳的)一擊;毆打and insulted[ɪnˈsʌlt]侮辱.

2.The Jewish leaders take Jesus before Pilate, for only he can impose [ɪmˋpoz] 徵(稅);加(負擔等)the death penalty [ˋpɛn!tɪ] 處罰;刑罰.

3.The robber [ˋrɑbɚ] 搶劫者,強盜, Barabbas, is preferred [prɪˋfɝ] 寧可,寧願(選擇);更喜歡to Jesus.

4.Pilate can "find no cause [kɔz] 原因;起因in Him", yet to appease [əˋpiz] 平息;緩和;撫慰the Jews, he orders Jesus to be scourged [skɝdʒ] 用作刑具的鞭子.

5.The scourge is made of leather  [ˋlɛðɚ] 皮革thongs[θɒŋ] 皮鞭 to which are attached [ǝˈtætʃ] 裝上,貼上,繫上small sharp [ʃɑrp] 鋒利的;尖的bones.

6.Jesus is bound [baʊnd] 被縛住的;受束縛的 to a pillar and cruelly[ˋkruəlɪ] 殘酷地,殘暴地scourged [skɝdʒ] 用作刑具的鞭子until His whole body is covered with deep wounds.

7.The Lamb of God offers His suffering for the sins of mankind.

8.Jesus suffers so much in His sacred [ˋsekrɪd] 神的,宗教(性)的flesh to satisfy[ˋsætɪs͵faɪ]使滿意,使高興;使滿足, especially, for sins of the flesh.

9.The prophecy [ˈprɑfǝsɪ]預言 of Isaiah is fulfilled [fʊlˈfɪld] 執行、滿足的: "He was wounded for our iniquities [ɪˈnɪkwǝtɪ] 極度的不公正;邪惡,罪惡, He was bruised [bruzd] 受傷 for our sins."

10.Father, by the merits [ˋmɛrɪt] 價值 of Jesus in this painful scourging, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Spiritual Fruit: Mortification [ˌmɒrtǝfǝˈkеʃǝn] 禁慾;苦行of the senses[sɛns]感官;官能

The Third Sorrowful Mystery

3.THE CROWNING WITH THORNS

1.Pilate asks, "Are You a king?" Jesus answers: "I am a King, but My kingdom is not of this world."

2.In the praetorium古羅馬帝國的省級官員的官方住宅, the soldiers place an old purple [ˈpɝpḷ] robe on Jesus in mockery [ˈmɑkǝrɪ]嘲笑;嘲弄of His claim [klеm] 要求 to be a king.

3.They fashion [ˈfæʃǝn]製作 a crown out of用……(材料)thorns, and forcefully強有力地[ˈfɒrsfǝlɪ]  press it down upon His head.

4.In His bound [baʊnd] 被縛住的;受束縛的 hands they place a reed, as a sceptre [ˈsɛptɚ] 授與王權, in mockery [ˈmɑkǝrɪ]嘲笑;嘲弄of His kingship.

5.Kneeling before Him in derision[dɪˋrɪʒən]被嘲笑, they spit[spɪt] 口出(惡言,粗話等) on Him, and cry out: "Hail, King of the Jews!"

6.Taking the reed from His hand they strike [straɪk]  Him on the head, driving把(釘,樁等)打入the thorns more deeply into His scalp:[skælp](動物的)頭皮.

7.Pilate brings Jesus before the people, hoping His pitiful [ˈpɪtɪfǝl] 可憐的 sight視覺,視力、模樣will soften [ˈsɒfṇ]使變柔軟 them: "Behold the man!"

8.Their response: "Crucify[ˈkrusǝˌfaɪ]把……的手腳釘在十字架上處死 Him! Crucify Him!"

9.Our Blessed Lord submitted [sǝbˈmɪt] 使服從,使屈服to this terrible humiliation [hjuˌmɪlɪˈеʃǝn] 丟臉;羞辱;蒙羞to make reparation [ˌrɛpǝˈrеʃǝn] 補償;賠償for our pride [praɪd] 自豪,得意、驕傲.

10.Father, by the merits of this painful疼痛的;引起痛苦的[ˈpеnfǝl]  humiliation [hjuˌmɪlɪˈеʃǝn] 丟臉;羞辱;蒙羞, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Spiritual Fruit: Reign[rеn] 統治;支配 of Christ in our heart

4.The Fourth Sorrowful Mystery

4.THE CARRYING OF THE CROSS

1.One condemned [kǝnˈdɛmd] 被判罪的to death by crucifixion is forced [forst]強迫 to carry the cross to the place of execution [ˌɛksɪˈkjuʃǝn] 處死刑;死刑.

2.The suffering of Jesus is intense [ɪnˈtɛns] 強烈的,劇烈的;極度的as the cross is laid on His bruised [bruzd] 挫傷的and wounded [ˈwundɪd]傷害 back and shoulders.

3.Weak and exhausted [ɪɡˈzɒstɪd] 精疲力竭的from loss of blood, lack [læk]缺乏 of food and rest, Jesus falls three times under the cross.

4.Jesus meets His afflicted [ǝˈflɪkt] 使痛苦,使苦惱,折磨Mother causing untold [ʌnˈtold] 數不清的;無限的;無法形容的anguish in the Hearts of Son and Mother.

5.The countenance [ˈkaʊntǝnǝns] 面容,臉色;表情of Jesus is disfigured [dɪsˈfɪɡjɚ] 損毀……的外形;使難看with blood and sweat, with dust and spittle [ˈspɪtḷ] 唾沫.

6.Veronica wipes His face, leaving on her towel the image of His countenance [ˈkaʊntǝnǝns] 面容,臉色;表情.

7.Fearing that Jesus might die on the way, the soldiers force[fors]強迫Simon of Cyrene to carry the cross behind Jesus.

8.Jesus speaks to weeping women: "Weep not for Me, but for yourselves and your children."

9."If anyone is to be My disciple, let him take up his cross and follow Me."

10.Father, by the merits of this painful journey to Calvary, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Spiritual Fruit: Patient[ˈpеʃǝnt] bearing of trials[ˈtraɪǝl]考驗

The Fifth Sorrowful Mystery

5.The Crucifixion

1.The hands and feet of Jesus are nailed to the cross in the presence of His afflicted[ǝˈflɪkt] 使痛苦,使苦惱,折磨Mother.

2."Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."

3."This day you will be with Me in paradise."

4."Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your Mother."

5."My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"

6."I thirst."

7."It is finished."

8."Father, into Your hands I commend My spirit."

9.The side of Jesus is pierced with a lance. His body is taken down and placed in the arms of His Mother.

10.Father, by the merits of the crucifixion and death of Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Spiritual Fruit: Pardoning [ˋpɑrdn] 原諒,饒恕,寬恕of Injuries [ˋɪndʒərɪ](對人,動物的)傷害;(對健康的)損害
