美國紐約的林肯中心（Lincoln Center）是美國東岸的電影堡壘，每年舉辦的紐約影展（New York Film Festival）提供了紐約客認識世界電影前衛風潮的管道；「新導演、新電影（New Directors,New Films）」影展則是新人出頭的重要管道；它們的「電影評論（Film Comment）」更被視為電影評論的指標性期刊，每逢年底，電影評論的編輯就會廣邀全美知名影評人，票選年度佳片，每人選出二十部，第一名給二十點，第二名十九點，依次遞減，最後再依得分高低排出等級，至於還沒有公開上映，但是已經試片過的作品，也有「未上映佳片」的競賽獎項，讓電影愛好者有更多的選擇。
