    Christ and Church

    NZ Fern

"Christ" and "Church" begin with "Ch".
Both of them mean "the anointed"
"Christ" is the transliteration of Greek, and "Messiah" is the transliteration of Hebrew. Both of them mean "the anointed". In the Israelite history, as stated in the Bible, prophets, priests, and kings were all called "the anointed". They were chosen by God to do something for Him. Prophets were sent to deliver the message from God to His people, priests were empowered to serve in the temple, and kings were authorized to rule His nation.
     1. Messiah n. Christ, the Anointed One; the expected king and deliverer of the Hebrews.
     2. Authorize v.t. To clothe with power, give (a person) the right to act or command.

However, after the kingdom of Judah perished and the Holy Temple was destroyed, there were no more kings or priests. God had kept silent so long (four hundred years) that the Jewish society began to expect God to deliver them from being ruled by the Gentiles. The one who is to come to execute such a task is their "expectant Messiah". This is the main reason that Jesus was rejected by the Jews when he was sent to earth "to save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)
     3. perish v.i. To lose life or vitality; decay or die.
     4. priest n. One devoted to the service of God or a god, with authority to perform religious rites.

     "Church" has two "Ch"es, indicating
"Church" has two "Ch"es, indicating "Jesus Christ" twice. The initial "Ch" represents the first coming of Jesus Christ, which has become his story, i.e. "history". The last "Ch" points out the second coming of Jesus Christ, i.e. "rapture", a special word to express the great joy meeting Jesus Christ in heaven. Between two "Ch"es, there is "ur", which sounds like "you are". "Church" reminds us of the fact that "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" (2 Corinthians 5:17)
     5. i.e. That is. 即。
