    策略過程:軍事與商業之比較 (HD30.28.G77K96 2007)

Whose toes are those (PS3555.El4St9 1992)

    Annotation

Pictures of the toes of various animals are accompanied by poems that describe but do not name the animal. On the following page the animal is named and fully revealed in its natural habitat.

    School Library Journal

PreS-- Children are invited to guess the name of the animal whose feet are revealed through a hole in each page. A poem about the hidden creature gives clues to its identity. When the page is turned, the whole animal is seen on another double-page spread. The riddles range from obvious to slightly obscure. The verses vary in length and many lack rhythm. The full-color cartoons are mediocre in quality. The layout is crowded and unfocused, with most of the action occurring on the right-hand page while the verse is set cleanly on the left. Some of the illustrations of the animals are also lost in the gutter. Hana Machotka's What Neat Feet! (Morrow, 1991), for the same age group and illustrated with full-color photos, uses a guessing-game format and is more successful at imparting brief information. Dr. Seuss's Foot Book (Random, 1968), though more fantastical, still can't be beat. --Marge Loch-Wouters, Menasha Public Library, WI

Three stories you can read to your cat (PZ7.M61K28 1997)

    Synopsis

Why do cats sleep so much? Maybe they are bored. Maybe they cannot think of anything else to do. What if you had to sit inside all day? You might get bored too. You can do a nice thing for your cat - you can read these stories out loud. They are funny stories about things cats think about and things cats like to do, and they have lots of funny pictures. Invite your cat to come hear a story - but ask nicely! Cats hate being told what to do. Sara Swan Miller and True Kelley, author and artist of the highly popular Three Stories You Can Read to Your Dog, have joined forces to prove again that they know what will delight young readers and their pets.

    Annotation

A cat hears three stories about a dull rainy day, a yummy bug, and a good day of destruction in the house.

    Publishers Weekly

Miller and Kelley follow up their clever Three Stories You Can Read to Your Dog with a blithe feline equivalent. Each of three stories includes animated descriptions of prowling and yowling, told in the second person as though a housecat were both main character and willing audience. "The Rainy Day" portrays a restless protagonist on a wet morning: "You went to sit under the dining room table. `Maybe some food will fall,' you said to yourself. `Sometimes food does that.' " The next entry, "The Yummy Bug," details the suspenseful pursuit of a spotted beetle. And the ironic "The Good Day" finds the hero trying to "be good" by gnawing a houseplant ("`Mmmmm,' you said to yourself. `That was very, very good' ") and excavating the kitchen trash (" `This is better than good,' you said. `This is GREAT!' "). Miller employs snappy sentences, a keen eye for kitty foibles and a quirky wit. Kelley's uncomplicated pen-and-ink and watercolor images show an attention to familiar cat poses; a pampered and plump gray cat crouches, bathes itself, climbs curtains and sharpens its claws. Even if cats don't deign to sit through a reading, this chapter book (like its canine companion volume) provides plenty of amusement for humans. Ages 7-10. (Mar.)

    Biography

True Kelley has illustrated many books for children, including Stay! Keeper's Story by Lois Lowry. She lives with children's author Steven Lindblom and their daughter, Jada, in Warner, New Hampshire.

    永恆的價值:巴菲特傳(HG4928.K55L96 2004)

The tale of Napkin Rabbit (PZ7.W85D75 1993)

    From Publishers Weekly
A rabbit fashioned from a napkin by Uncle George quickly becomes Milly's favorite toy, much to the annoyance of her other dolls and stuffed animals. Napkin Rabbit is ostracized, and fearful of being "unfolded" (a fate worse than death, obviously). He soon runs away, taking shelter with Milly's real pet rabbits. Literally sick with worry, Milly frets over Napkin Rabbit's fate, until finally her other toys relent and fetch him home again. This fairly insipid tale is both too wordy and predictable, but it's jazzed up by the presence of Downer's competent watercolors, as well as directions for a do-it-yourself napkin rabbit (two napkins are included). Ages 4-8.
Copyright 1993 Reed Business Information, Inc.

    Product Description
Milly loves Napkin Rabbit, the wonderful new animal that Uncle George had fashioned out of two dinner napkins, but her other toys' jealousy threatens their relationship.
